The Gala Theatre are proud to present the East Coast Visions curated gallery space for the Durham Adventure Festival. This incredible installation takes the viewer to one of the most remote destinations in the world- star of BBC’s Frozen Planet; South Georgia. Anto Baird’s ‘Way Off Piste’ photography exhibition form the main body of this piece, and support an appearance by the man himself on Saturday night at 8:30 pm on the Basecamp stage. A 10 day round trip from the Falkland islands sailing in to the storms of the frozen South Sea is an adventure in its own right, but add to it a full blown ski touring mission & a face to face encounter with the native wildlife and you have the recipe for something unique in the world of adventure.
In addition to the main exhibition, East Coast Visions have also provided video works from other contributors who have a local connection with the region. These play back on a loop in the gallery space, and visitors will be treated to award winning short films from Jordy Walker, Tom Bing, Chris Mclean, Jenny Tough, Gary Fildes, Georgie Page, Chris Green and local adventure sports brand, Montane. These video serve as an insight in to the content which will feature on the Fringe stage over the course of the weekend, with personal appearances by the actual contributors to tell their own tales of distant shores & paths less walked. See Basecamp page for more information.
